Power Frequency Magnetic Field Immunity
Power Frequency Magnetic Field Immunity Test
The IEC/EN 61000-4-8 Magnetic Field Immunity Test is applied to evaluate the resistance of electrical and electronic equipment against low-frequency magnetic fields, generally 50 Hz or 60 Hz. This test determines the product’s immunity level against magnetic interference and ensures safe operation, especially in environments where AC power systems are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the ability of devices to maintain their functionality against low-frequency magnetic fields emitted by power cables, transformers, motors or other electromechanical sources in their surroundings. Such fields may affect device performance, especially in critical applications such as medical devices or control systems.
Test Structure and Features
- The test frequency is generally 50 Hz or 60 Hz, which is the power frequency
- Specific magnetic field levels such as 1 A/m, 3 A/m or 30 A/m are applied
- The functional response of the device is observed during the test
- Test procedures compliant with the IEC/EN 61000-4-8 standard are followed
What Is Its Purpose?
This test is carried out to measure the immunity level of devices against low-frequency magnetic fields originating from other systems connected to the power network. It is applied to sensitive systems such as power supplies, medical devices, data processing units and automation equipment. The objective is to ensure that the device operates without being affected by environmental magnetic interference.
Compliance with Standards
Our tests comply with EMC immunity standards such as IEC 61000-4-8 and EN 61000-6-1. The magnetic field generators and test systems used are calibrated to simulate the device’s real operating conditions in an electromagnetic environment.
Why Is It Important?
Electronic devices may be sensitive to interference caused by magnetic fields. These disturbances may lead to problems such as malfunction, data loss or reset, especially in devices located near equipment operating at power frequency. Through this test, the operating stability of the device in a magnetic environment is verified and its compliance with regulations such as CE and FCC is documented.
