Voltage Variations and Flicker Test

EN 61000-3-3 Flicker Test is applied to check whether voltage variations and visible light fluctuations, known as flicker, caused by electrical and electronic devices during operation remain within specified limits. This test is especially important for maintaining visual comfort in lighting systems and ensuring power network stability. The flicker test evaluates whether temporary voltage drops or fluctuations caused by sudden current changes during device operation, such as motor start-up, relay activation or heater switching, create visual disturbance. Excessive flicker effects may cause eye fatigue, distraction and loss of visual comfort, especially in lighting systems.

Test Structure and Features

  • Small and rapid voltage changes are measured, including voltage fluctuation and flicker
  • Evaluation is performed according to the limits specified in the IEC 61000-3-3 standard
  • Pst (short-term flicker severity) and Plt (long-term flicker severity) parameters are analyzed
  • It is an especially mandatory test for devices below 1.5 kVA

What Is Its Purpose?

This test is performed to determine whether the voltage fluctuation and flicker caused by the device remain within acceptable limits in the power network. It is a critical requirement for product groups such as lighting systems, motor-driven household appliances, heaters and welding machines. The objective is to ensure that the device can be connected to the power network without disturbing other users.

Compliance with Standards

Our flicker and voltage variation tests comply with IEC 61000-3-3 and IEC 61000-3-11 standards. Tests are performed using real-time analysis software and precise measuring equipment, and are completed with detailed reports for use in CE certification processes.

Why Is It Important?

Voltage variations may affect not only the device itself, but also other systems connected to the same line. This may lead to consequences such as eye discomfort, visual fatigue, failures in production lines and customer dissatisfaction. This test is a critical step in proving that the product is power-network friendly and ensuring compliance with regulations such as CE.
